BLEPHAROPLASTY

Correcting excess eyelid skin and periorbital fat is the goal that can be achieved with this procedure. Both the upper eyelids (reduction of excess skin) and the lower eyelids, ( eliminating swelling due to excess fatty tissue pads and loose skin) can be treated.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia

Blepharoplasty is performed under local anesthesia, preferably in the operating room, the patient is discharged after a couple of hours. It involves a few days of rest, it won’t result in any particular functional limitation of sight of daily activities. Edema and bruising can appear on the sides of the nose in the days following the surgery, their reabsorption is very rapid (1-3 days).

Also, by combining particular precautions with the classic technique, it’s possible to change the cut of the eye (canthopexy) or correct muscle-skin asymmetries.

This provides great benefits:

  • in  patients with a bulky browbone and heavy skin.
  • in patients with a natural disposition of the eyebrows to go downwards .
  • in patients who want to markedly raise the tail of the eyebrow.
  • to improve the effects on the distension of "crow's feet" in the lateral part of the eye when upper blepharoplasty and treatment with botulinum toxin were not sufficient.

EYEBROW LIFT

It can be associated with eyebrow lifting surgery - brow lift

Sometimes lifting the eyebrows (eyebrow lift - brow lift) in association with blepharoplasty can be of great benefit for the balance and harmony of the eyes. This procedure allows the central and lateral portion of the eyebrow to be raised by removing of a small portion of skin immediately above the eyebrow. It is performed simultaneously or later on, always leaving minimal scar residues.

It is often performed in association with upper blepharoplasty and as its natural completion. It can be extremely useful to refine the direct lifting by using silhouette-soft suspension threads that improve the position of the ciliary arch and the consistency of the tissues of the forehead.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and involves the removal of a carefully measured skin strip. The suture, made with very thin stitches, is practically invisible over time, partially hidden between the eyebrows.

Stitches  are removed after 5 days and the patient can resume all activities.

The result is an open and brighter look without changing the shape of the eyes.

POST-OPERATIVE COURSE

After the surgery, it is recommended to apply a dry cloth to the part on which cold or fresh aids will be applied (such as cooling gel sheets or ice packs inside a latex glove). The anti-edema and anti-inflammatory value of the cold  aids lasts for the first 6/8 hours.

It is essential to rest in an armchair or in bed at least for the first day. It is also essential to avoid sudden movements, bowing the head and all physical efforts at least until the removal of the stitches which usually takes place after 4 or 6 days.

After the local anesthetic has disappeared, patients do not feel pain, but a sense of discomfort and a sort of itch that can be easily soothed with specific anti-inflammatories whose details are provided upon discharge.

In the days following the surgery, a mild swelling appears ( conspicuous only in some cases). Some isolated bruising might also appear. Usually ,by the established date for the stitches removal, it will have disappeared on its own.

After the removal of the stitches, in some cases very thin stabilization patches are applied to the external part of the wounds. More often the patient is free with the sole recommendation to not traumatize, rub or manipulate the eyelids too vigorously.

After another 2 days it will be possible to apply makeup on your eyelids and then fully resume your social and work life. As for sports, the timing is generally the same, as long as it does not involve direct trauma to the orbital region or requires the use of glasses or masks. In these cases it will be appropriate to respect a further week of sports abstention.

The residual wounds from this surgery are aesthetically very good, almost invisible. However, the maturation process of the same is progressive because in the first 3/5 months there is a subtle thickening and a slight redness.
